bourbon chicken

A classic mall Chinese takeout dish. Often time too overly sweet for you to really enjoy the dish. this recipe gives you that same great flavor but with less of the sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken thigh, cut into bite size strips

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 2 tsp chicken seasoning

  • 1 tsp dry jerk seasoning

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp. paprika

  • 2 tbsp. corn starch

  • oil for frying

  • bourbon sauce
  • 1/4 cup of water

  • 1/4 cup apple juice

  • 3/4 cup bourbon

  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar

  • small piece of ginger ( about 1/3 of your pinky )

  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce

  • crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp cornstarch mix with 2 tsp water

Directions

  • Wash, then season sliced chicken thigh with powdered seasonings. when you’re ready to fry add corn starch to the seasoned chicken and mix well in a bowl.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan and fry chicken until golden brown. remove from oil when browned and set aside.
  • Sauce directions
  • In a separate pot, add water, apple juice, bourbon, sugar, ginger, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, garlic powder and onion powder. let that simmer for about 10 minutes to cook off the liquor from the bourbon.
  • Once the liquor is cooked off, add in the cornstarch mix to thicken the sauce. the sauce should be thicken in less than a minute.
  • Then add in the fried chicken and stir thoroughly to coat the chicken. serve with plain rice or some fried rice. enjoy
